Character Education at Vista Grande!

Character Education at Vista Grande!

At Vista Grande, our students have opportunities to learn from different programs to support their character and social emotional learning. It is important to our staff and families that we build a supportive and inclusive campus community through school-wide initiatives, classroom lessons, social-emotional learning (SEL) and support, and opportunities to participate in school events. Through these initiatives and opportunities, we strive to teach students empathy, conflict resolution, effective communication, emotional regulation, inclusivity, resilience, and perseverance.

NEW: Positivity Project (P2)

A school-wide character education program that empowers students to build positive relationships and recognize the character strengths in themselves and others. Based on the principles of positive psychology, the program focuses on developing 24 character strengths—such as kindness, bravery, teamwork, and gratitude—through daily lessons and discussions. At the heart of The Positivity Project is the belief that "Other People Matter." This mindset is woven throughout the curriculum, helping students cultivate empathy, resilience, and a deeper understanding of themselves and those around them. Each week, a new character strength is introduced and explored in age-appropriate ways, promoting personal growth, fostering a supportive school culture, and helping students become compassionate, well-rounded individuals.

Whether you're a parent, educator, or community member, The Positivity Project provides tools and language that encourage ongoing character development both in and out of the classroom.

SRVUSD implemented the Zones of Regulation district-wide in our 22 elementary schools. The Zones of Regulation framework and curriculum teach students to build awareness of their feelings, learn and utilize a variety of tools and strategies for emotional regulation, social skills, self-care, and overall wellness. Students learn different strategies for mindfulness, healthy connections with others, and thinking strategies. In addition, The Zones of Regulation incorporates Social Thinking concepts to support students in understanding how their behavior affects others, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
